Job Description

The Human Resources Director is a key leadership position at the Grand Traverse Bay YMCA. This role is responsible for leading the HR function with a focus on cultivating a culture of inclusion, employee engagement, and ongoing organizational development. The HR Director works closely with department leaders to align HR strategies with the YMCA’s mission, vision, and values.

The Human Resources Director will support all aspects of the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, development, employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, and workforce planning.

Qualifications
  • Minimum age: 21 years
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field
  • HR certification preferred (SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR)
  • Minimum of five years of progressive HR leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices and employment law
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information with professionalism
  • Familiarity with YMCA culture and values strongly preferred
  • Must maintain current certification in CPR and AED and complete required internal trainings (Child Abuse Prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens)
Essential Functions
  • Develop and execute HR strategies that support the YMCA's mission and organizational goals
  • Advise leadership and department directors on HR policy and compliance matters
  • Lead efforts in employee engagement, culture-building, and change management
  • Oversee full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and talent retention initiatives
  • Coordinate employee development and training programs that foster leadership growth
  • Address and resolve employee relations concerns with fairness and professionalism
  • Ensure compliance with all employment-related laws and YMCA policies
  • Oversee compensation and benefits programs to remain competitive and equitable
  • Supervise and support administrative HR staff, including the Executive Administrative Assistant
  • Promote a positive workplace culture through initiatives that encourage inclusion, respect, and employee well-being
  • Perform other duties as assigned
