Program Director II- Sports and Group Fitness

Seeking a highly motivated professional to lead and grow our Sports and Group Fitness departments at the J A Walters Family YMCA. 
Job Description

The Program Director is responsible for the planning, implementation, and supervision of youth sports and adult wellness programming, including group fitness. This full-time position supports the YMCA mission by promoting youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility through engaging, safe, and high-quality programs. Evening and weekend availability is required, particularly for youth sports seasons.

Qualifications

1.      Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

2.      One to two years of experience in youth sports or group fitness leadership preferred.

3.      Experience in program planning, staff supervision, and volunteer management is desirable.

4.      Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

5.      CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications (or obtained within 60 days of hire).

6.      National group fitness certification (ACE, AFAA, NASM, etc.) preferred but not required.

7.      Knowledge of youth sports fundamentals and safety practices preferred but not required.

Essential Functions

1.      General Program Leadership:

·        Develops and manages budgets related to youth sports and group fitness programs.

·        Supports YMCA fundraising initiatives, including the Annual Campaign.

·        Assures compliance with YMCA policies and applicable regulations.

·        Participates in staff meetings, trainings, and community outreach events.

·        Provides leadership and mentorship to part-time staff and volunteers.

·        Maintains accurate program records and prepares reports as needed.

2.      Youth Sports:

·        Plans, develops, and manages youth sports programs for children ages 2–10, including soccer, basketball, and dance.

·        Establishes program calendars including registration periods, game schedules, and season timelines.

·        Orders, inventories, and maintains sports equipment and supplies.

·        Prepares fields and facilities for games and practices, including field lining and equipment setup.

·        Recruits, trains, and supports volunteer coaches and officials.

·        Communicates with parents and participants in a professional and timely manner.

·        Ensures safety procedures and program quality standards are met at all times.

3.      Group Fitness & Adult Programming:

·        Oversees adult wellness programs, primarily group fitness classes.

·        Hires, trains, schedules, and evaluates group fitness instructors.

·        Develops and adjusts the class schedule based on member needs and participation trends.

·        Assists in purchasing and maintaining group fitness equipment and supplies.

·        Promotes a high level of service and member engagement.
