Job Description

The Aquatic Director is responsible for the organization, operations, supervision, and delivery of the Aquatic program and services to the membership and our community.  To create an environment that is safe and inviting for members and one that they desire to be at.  Provide supervision and development of staff.  To promote a positive culture for participation in aquatic programs and services for members that fullfills the YMCA's mission, goals, and objectives.

Qualifications
  • Current lifeguard certification/CPR for the Professional Rescuer/First Aid required (can be obtained upon hire)
  • Experience in aquatic operations, management and programming preferred
  • Lifeguard Training Instructor certification (can be obtained upon hire)
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Strong background in aquatics and water safety
  • Experience working with the public (all ages) 
  • Ability to multitask and be flexible on short notice
Essential Functions

This position will require flexibility with scheduling due to the hours of operation that our facility and the Aquatics department is open.  Availability to work varied hours as needed, including evenings and weekends.  Core hours can be established but may need to be adjusted as needed. 

  • Directs and supervises aquatic programming
  • Develops and monitors aquatic budget
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops lifeguards and swim instructors
  • Plans and facilitates staff in-service training
  • Coordinates schedules for the aquatic center with staff and internal departments
  • Will assist with lifeguarding and swim lessons as needed
  • Sets clear and concise expectations of staff in enforcing health and safety in the aquatic center
  • Promote the YMCA
  • Other duties as assigned as part of the leadership team at the YMCA
