Job Description

Under the direction of the Executive Leadership and consistent with the mission and policies of the YMCA of Western North Carolina, the Senior Program Director oversees the consistent implementation of best practices in Aquatics across the Association, including daily pool and aquatic program operations, volunteer and staff development, financial management and collaborations with community agencies. The Senior Program Director is accountable for ensuring the delivery of programs and services to YMCA members and participants that span numerous locations. They are a vital member of YMCA leadership staff and a highly visible representative of the YMCA mission and core values. They are accountable for knowing and properly executing YMCA policies and procedures.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, business, or equivalent is required. (Extensive related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.)
  • Three or more years of management experience
    YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader certification is preferred or obtained within two years from the hire date.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications required and maintained throughout length of employment.
  • Red Cross Lifeguard and Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor required within 60 days of hire and maintained throughout length of employment.
  • YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor required and maintained throughout length of employment
  • YMCA Swim Lesson Trainer achieved within 6 months of employment and maintained throughout length of employment.
  • Management experience in YMCA or another Non-Profit environment preferred.
  • Experience with multi-department or location experience preferred.
  • Red Cross Lifeguard Trainer preferred.
  • YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to direct multiple department operations through volunteer development, staff supervision, development and monitoring of branch budget, marketing, and public relations, and program development.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the day-to-day operational aspects of aquatic facilities, including pool maintenance, water quality, equipment maintenance, and scheduling.
  • Understanding and staying updated on local, state, and federal safety regulations and guidelines pertaining to aquatic facilities and programs.
  • Financial acumen to create and manage budgets for multiple sites, including revenue generation and cost control.
  • Knowledge of training, certification, and staff development programs for lifeguards, instructors, and facility staff.
  • Capable of creating and implementing long-term strategies for program growth and improvement.
  • Identifying and implementing innovative programs and safety measures to enhance the aquatics experience. 

STATISTICAL DATA

  • The scope of responsibilities includes supervision of multiple direct reports.
  • Responsibilities include oversight of aquatic programming across multiple locations, serving over 4,000 swim lesson participants a year.
  • This position has shared budget responsibility of $890,000+ in revenue and management of $1.5M in expenses.
Essential Functions
  • Contributes to the overall Y mission of strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
  • Works closely with Executive service line leadership to ensure development, implementation and completion of the Aquatics chart of work annually.
  • Models professional interaction with other employees, members, program participants, volunteers, and the community while always demonstrating the YMCA’s voice and core values.
  • Develops, coordinates, markets, and evaluates aquatic service line offerings and services.
  • Develops and implements an annual association calendar to provide all necessary training throughout the association, including LGI, YSL & courses focusing on working with people with diverse abilities. Ensures correct entry into systems and quality control measures consistent with training authority expectations.
  • Ensures staff meetings (inclusive of in-services for LG and SL) are productive and high functioning. Continually communicates with and inform service line leadership staff about YMCA initiatives and trends.
  • Ensures teams deliver quality work within given deadlines and expectations with minimal supervision.
  • Develops and enhances the quality and innovation of the member and participant experience to improve retention, cross pollination, and growth. Develops, coordinates, markets, and evaluates service line program offerings and services.
  • Provides direct support and guidance to all Aquatic leadership and staff regarding Swim Lesson programming, lifeguarding, aquatic safety, NC and CPO pool operations.
  • Works with executive leadership, marketing department, and center aquatic teams to align aquatic marketing efforts across the association. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness and participation in programs for all centers and off-site locations.
  • Drives strong recruitment, development, and succession planning processes to ensure the hiring, professional development, and retention of high-quality staff.
    • Directly supervises center based aquatic directors/managers.
    • Assists in the hiring and training of new Aquatics Directors/Managers and serves as a mentor as they enter their new position.
    • Develops strategies to motivate aquatic staff and achieve goals.
  • Works with center teams and Executive Leadership to develop annual budget for portfolio.
    • Monitors monthly financial reports to assure that revenue targets are met, and expenses are controlled.
    • Completes monthly variance reports and forecast updates.
    • Adjusts operations as needed to achieve fiscal targets.
  • Responsible for ensuring the entry of all Swim Lesson programs into Daxko for the Association on a timely basis, ensuring uniformity.
  • Works closely with the Program Experience Director to ensure the consistency and follow-through of all directed points of contact within a swim lesson session (Welcome Letter, Mid-Session Report, Achievement) through Association software package.
  • Ensures all the policies of the organization are implemented, including Financial, Human Resources, and Program Policies.
  • Ensures all requirements and deliverables for grants are achieved and reported on in a timely manner.
  • Responds to participant, staff and community inquiries in a timely manner and ensure Aquatic leadership follows processes and procedures for Listen 360 for their programs and centers.
  • Plays a key role in the Annual Campaign and actively works to increase participation in the Safety Around Water Program through new partnerships and dollars associated.
  • Models inclusive behaviors and embraces all dimensions of diversity.
  • Supports service line/department in actively working toward association-level objectives, as measured by identified goals/KPIs.
  • Participates in the budgeting process within their service line/department and serves as a good steward of association resources.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
