We are currently seeking an Adventure Guides/Asst Camp on the Lake Associate Director to help serve our organization.
Job Description
The Adventure Guide program currently operates within 10 of our branches across 7 different cities. With the assistance and direction of the Adventure Guides Program Lead, this position is responsible for managing and coordinating for different regions of the Adventure Guides Program for the YMCA of Metro Dallas Adventure Guides Program.
Currently the program is offering 7-8 campouts both in the fall and spring as well as various local events. In the summer and under the direct supervision of the Camp Director, he/she is responsible for supervision of all waterfront specialty staff and development of specialty curriculum for all activities.
During the summer this position will will report directly to the Camp Director and will oversee training and management all staff responsible for the waterfront, waterfront specialty staff, and ensuring the safety and supervision of any staff/participants during waterfront activities.
Qualifications
The applicant should be detailed orientated and comfortable communicating in a variety of forms across their programs. Preferably applicant has experience working with children and problem solving. They need to be able to work independently and take initiative with program management as well as interact regularly with Program Volunteers, Board Members, other Directors, School Systems, and members from across the Association.
Key Qualifications:
- Minimum age of 21 years old and bachelor’s degree or 1-3 years of equivalent experience in youth and family programming with experience in camping/recreation.
- Monitoring of budget and ability to hire, discipline, organize, supervise, and evaluate staff.
- Both jobs require physical exertion and the capacity to left and carry up to 50 lbs and initiate first aid procedures.
- Both jobs do require spending significant time outside.
- Lifeguard certification and will acquire LGI Certification within 30 days of hire.
- Needs a valid Driver’s License and must be able to obtain a boater’s license in Texas. Will determine, visually and auditorily, if conditions are safe for boating and/or waterfront activities.
Essential Functions
The position will include the following:
- Coordinate and organize Adventure Guide Campouts and monthly events for the program
- Provide constant and clear communication with all volunteers in their region involved in Guide Programs
- Recruit and build volunteer opportunities within the Guides program
- Ability to multitask and coordinate several projects and/or teams
- Ability to relate well and develop positive relationships with the YMCA members/participants, team members, outside groups, and the immediate community at large.
- Serve as the staff liaison at a branch which includes Annual Fundraising efforts.
- Oversee training and management all staff responsible for the waterfront, waterfront specialty staff, and ensuring the safety and supervision of any staff/participants during waterfront activities.
- Managing all waterfront supplies and equipment and ensuring they are ready to go each day as well as picked up at the end of the day.
- This person will also be responsible for any lifeguard training and supervising, including weekly in-services, drop drills and compliance.
