Job Description

Salary: $22.00 Hourly

The North Brooklyn YMCA is seeking a Teen Coordinator. Under the supervision of the Youth & Family Director, the Teen Coordinator will lead the management and implementation of all teen programs. Position responsibilities include assisting the Youth & Family Director in managing staff, program development, outreach, recruitment, and key community partnerships such as local schools. The impact of teen programs will be carefully measured and monitored for continuous improvement. Teen programs take place during the school year concurrent with the school day, after school hours, and Saturday evenings. Teen programs also take place during the summer on Saturday evenings. The Teen Coordinator will supervise all teen travel, including overnight and multi-day trips.

[Program Portfolio: Y Saturday Night Lights (SNL), Y Scholars, Teens Take the City (TTC), Rowe Scholars, Leaders Club, and Teen Center, and any newly developed programs].

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent required. College degree in the field of Education or social work is desired.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with teens/youth and planning activities.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certifications preferred.
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and leadership qualities, and comfortable with multicultural youth and adults.
Essential Functions
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of teens in the program by providing close supervision of all activities.
  • Manage administrative data entry in various systems, including Youth Service.NET and AS400, coordinate participant paperwork, conduct program surveys, and all other requirements outlined by City agencies and in the YMCA’s Teen Standards.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement program registration, programming, workshops, and special events with support from part-time teen counselors.
  • Directly facilitate teen programming in lieu of the Teen Advisor when a position is vacant. 
  • Ensure that programming is led with a focus on Social Emotional Learning and skill development.
  • Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information and help to compile program statistics.
  • Help to develop, implement, and monitor the program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Establish and maintain links with service providers in various settings, including other CBOs, schools, and partnerships.
  • Attend designated meetings, training sessions, and special events related to teen programming.
  • Participate in Branch Fundraising/ Annual Support Campaign.
  • Act as the liaison to the YMCA of Greater New York regarding teen issues.
  • Provide support to the Youth & Director regarding staff management and scheduling.
  • Manage adolescent behavior with respect, maturity, compassion, and encouragement.
  • Create and support an environment that is diverse, culturally sensitive, and relevant to the needs of teens.
