Job Description

Our nationally recognized gymnastics program has built a strong tradition of excellence, earning numerous regional and local honors. We are looking for an accomplished Optional Team Coach who brings energy, expertise, and leadership to help continue that success.

At the Darien Y, you’ll work in a first-rate facility alongside a supportive team that believes in both athlete development and coach growth. We invest in our staff because we know exceptional coaches create exceptional athletes.

What You’ll Do

As an Optional Team Coach, you will guide gymnasts through proper techniques, skill development, and competitive preparation while fostering a fun, safe, and motivating environment where every athlete can develop and succeed.

You’ll be a mentor, leader, and positive role model for athletes and families while helping uphold the high standards and strong reputation of the Darien Y Gymnastics Program.

Schedule

Monday – Friday: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Saturday: 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM

Competition travel and occasional extended hours may be required based on team schedules.

Qualifications
  • 5–8 years of competitive gymnastics coaching experience preferred
  • Strong gymnastics background through competition and/or coaching at competitive levels
  • Strong Bars and Vault coaching experience required
  • Deep understanding of gymnastics fundamentals, progressions, and practice organization
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and team-building skills
  • Constructive and development-focused coaching methods that create a motivating, healthy, and productive training environment
  • Ability to travel and work evenings/weekends as team schedules require
Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities Include but are not Limited to:

  • Assess athletes and collaborate with the Head Coach to assign appropriate USA Gymnastics levels
  • Coach assigned classes, pre-team, developmental team, and optional team athletes
  • Attend and support all travel team competitions
  • Train athletes according to individual skill level, limitations, and potential
  • Spot a variety of gymnastics skills safely and effectively
  • Lift, move, and set up mats and equipment as needed
  • Serve as a positive role model for gymnasts, parents, officials, and staff
  • Demonstrate outstanding sportsmanship and professionalism
  • Schedule, conduct, and participate in staff training clinics
  • Build strong relationships and maintain effective communication with athletes and families
  • Help maintain the high standards and continued success of the Darien Y Gymnastics Program
Required Certifications
  • CPR
  • AED
  • Basic First Aid
  • CDC Concussion Prevention Training
  • SafeSport Certification
