Aquatics Site Lead

The Aquatics Site Lead assures the safety of all aquatic participants in and around the pool area, maintains a safe pool environment
Job Description
  • In the absence of the Aquatic Director or Assistant Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Site Lead supervises all functions in the pool area. 
  • Practice preventative life guarding, maintaining constant surveillance of pool area.
  • Serve as the on-deck and on-site leader during assigned shifts when the Aquatics Director and Assistant Aquatics Director are not present. 
  • Supervise lifeguards and other aquatics staff, ensuring compliance with YMCA policies, safety standards, and procedures.
  • Enforce all pool rules and policies with members and participants.
  • Run the pool deck and manage daily operations, including staff assignments, rotations, and overall shift performance.
  • Support and follow YMCA policies and decisions and answer member questions about the YMCA and its programs.
  • Oversee pool operations to ensure a safe, efficient, and positive environment for members and guests. 
  • Maintain proficiency in all Emergency Action Plans (EAP), first aid, CPR, and lifesaving techniques. 
  • Conduct regular safety checks of the pool area, equipment, and facility, address hazards, and maintenance concerns promptly. 
  • Lead scan drills and ensure staff preparedness for emergency situations. 
  • Oversee daily water quality testing and chemical levels, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. 
  • Monitor and address water quality or facility-related issues as they arise. 
  • Exhibit a professional attitude at all times, which includes wearing appropriate staff uniform.
  • Instruct group and private swimming lessons as needed 
  • Assist in ensuring swimming lesson report cards are accurate, complete, and up to date. 
  • Assist in maintaining lesson rosters, swim lesson trackers, and report card supplies. 
  • Address guest concerns and complaints professionally, prioritizing safety and customer satisfaction. Make independent, sound operational decisions as the on-site leader to ensure YMCA standards are consistently met. 
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct and policies within the Child Abuse Prevention handbook.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • CPR/First Aid Instructor or be able to obtain in the first 6 months of employment.
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certifications required.
  • LGI (Lifeguard Instructor) certification or be able to obtain in the first six months of employment.
  • Have a CPO (Certified Pool Operator) certification or be able to obtain in the first 6 months of employment (Preferred).
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Proven verbal communication skills that impact human relations at all levels of responsibility, strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Experienced teambuilding, programming, and project management skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, be flexible, use sound judgment, and work harmoniously with others.
  • At least 18 years of age preferred and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current American Red Cross lifeguard certification or ability to renew within 30 days of employment.
  • At least 2 years’ experience as a lifeguard.
  • Proficient in swimming and safety skills.
  • Must demonstrate qualities of a leader and be able to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Must be observant, safety-conscious and able to react calmly and quickly to an emergency.
  • Maintain American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification every 2 years.
  • Bloodborne Pathogens/Child Abuse Prevention every year.

 

 

Essential Functions

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be mentally alert to dangerous situations in order to ensure the safety of all swimmers.
  • Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively. 
  • Physical mobility to properly use aquatic equipment to rescue a 200 lb. person.
  • Must be able to physically stand and sit for an extended period of time.
  • Physically able to see, hear, and communicate clearly and be able to hear noises and distress signals in aquatic environment.
  • Able to read, write and perform basic math to complete daily chemical logs.
  • Swim with proficiency and endurance for possible rescues. 
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with members and staff using Listen First skills.
